The following is to
familiarize the reader with the various types of boats designed by J.
Simpson Ltd. since its founding in 1974. We have included vessels
presently under construction (in parenthesis) as well as those in
service since the launch date of hull no. 1 shown.
We are a versatile firm and will work with both professional and amateur
builders. This biography is by no means a complete indication of the
types of projects we get involved with but should give the reader a
better idea of our experience and expertise.
Our designs consist of a variety of materials: fiberglass [F] (sandwich
and solid); Steel [S]; and aluminum [A]. While we do not prefer one
material over the other, there are certain applications in which some
materials are better suited. Plans are available for most boats listed.
Speeds shown for power boats are maximum in knots. Sailing vessel speeds
are shown at cruising under power, with reported speeds under sail in
parenthesis.

Vessels built under class
to comply with regulatory agencies (Transport Canada{TC}, USCG, etc) are
denoted by *.
In addition to the vessels
shown, J,. Simpson Ltd. has also done consultation and design work on
other vessels, both ‘new builds’ and conversions. Examples are:
- Re-design and re-power of a 32’
catamaran: speed went from 34 to 47+ knots.
- Conversion of a 100’ steel tug to a
passenger vessel (TC inspected).
- SARPal: Search and Rescue-Portable,
air launched. Assist and design in conjunction with commercial and
military interests to develop ( proof of concept) an air dropped
remote/autonomous marine rescue vehicle.
- Supply of technical assistance and
drawings for a 85’ aluminum motoryacht. Structure,
propulsion/steering, layout, and stability.
- Design check and hydrostatics for
several settling pond (petroleum) skimmers of various sizes.
